Blog Series: The 4 Pillars of Emotional Intelligence

WHAT IS EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE AND WHY DOES IT MATTER?

An introduction to Emotional Intelligence
Have you ever wondered what really drives your personal and professional relationships?

When you hear the term “Emotional Intelligence” (EI), you might wonder what it really means.

Is it about being emotional? Is it about reading other people’s feelings?

In truth, emotional intelligence is the ability to understand and manage your own emotions while also being attuned to the emotions of others. It’s about how we relate to ourselves and the people around us.

Why is this important?

Emotional intelligence underpins every interaction we have. It’s the foundation for personal and professional relationships, whether we’re leading a team, supporting a friend, or connecting with a colleague. Without it, relationships can feel strained, and misunderstandings often arise.

This series will explore the 4 Pillars of Emotional Intelligence:

  • self-awareness

  • self-regulation

  • social awareness

  • relationship management

Horses are exemplars of emotional intelligence

Along the way, I’ll share how lessons from the herd - the wonderful four-legged facilitators I'm so fortunate to work with - can deepen our understanding of EI and help us show up as more authentic leaders and individuals.

Stay tuned for a journey that might just transform the way you see yourself and others!
